Frequently Asked Questions

Sizing & Selection

How do I choose the right tarp size?

Tarps are sold by their cut size, but the finished (usable) size is typically 3–6 inches smaller on each side due to hemming. For example, a 10×12 tarp has a finished coverage area of approximately 9'6"×11'6". Always size up if you're covering something close to the tarp's listed dimensions.

What size tarp do I need for my application?

A good rule of thumb: measure the area you need to cover, then add at least 1–2 feet of overhang on each side for secure tie-down. For pitched or irregular surfaces (roofs, equipment), add extra to account for drape.

Do you offer tarps in custom sizes?

Yes — we accept custom and bulk orders. Email us for a quote with your dimensions and quantity.

Materials & Durability

What does "mil" mean, and how does it affect durability?

"Mil" refers to the thickness of the poly tarp material (1 mil = 1/1000 of an inch). Higher mil = thicker and more durable. As an industrial tarp manufacturer, our poly tarps start at 12 mil and go up to 14, 16, 20, and 30 mil for heavy-duty industrial and agricultural applications. Our only lighter 5 mil poly option is a FEMA-specific tarp.

What does "oz" (ounce) mean on a tarp?

Ounce weight refers to the weight of the woven poly fabric per square yard. Heavier oz ratings indicate a denser weave and greater tear resistance. Our vinyl tarps start at 18 oz, with 22 oz and 40 oz options for the heaviest-duty needs.

Are your tarps UV-resistant and waterproof?

Yes. Our poly tarps feature UV-stabilized polyethylene and are 100% waterproof. They are designed for extended outdoor exposure, though all tarps will degrade over time with prolonged UV exposure — heavier mil/oz tarps last significantly longer.

Are your tarps suitable for agricultural or industrial use?

Yes. We carry heavy-duty options specifically designed for farm, construction, and industrial applications, including silicone-coated and reinforced variants for demanding environments.

Fire Retardancy & Certifications

Do you offer fire-retardant tarps?

Yes. We carry tarps that meet NFPA 701 fire retardancy standards, which are required for many event, tent, and commercial applications.

What is NFPA 701?

NFPA 701 is the National Fire Protection Association's standard test method for flame propagation of textiles and films. Tarps that pass this test are classified as fire retardant and are commonly required by fire marshals for temporary structures, stages, and public events.

How do I know if a specific tarp is NFPA 701 certified?

Fire retardancy is noted in the individual product description. If you need documentation or a certificate for a specific product, contact us and we can provide it.

Are custom or bulk orders returnable?
